Philips Airfryer Models Reviewed
Air fryers are a brand new technology that lets you cook fried foods with just a fraction of the grease that conventional deep fryers use. Air fryers work very well, and they’re a healthier alternative to using a conventional deep fryer full of unhealthy industrial refined vegetable oils. You can choose to use whatever oil you like and reap the health benefits while enjoying the foods that you love. My hope is that by reading this Philips Airfryer review that you’ll learn enough to choose a Philips Airfryer that’s right for you.
Choosing an air fryer is serious business if you’re planning on using it regularly. And you will when you realize that air fryers can bake, roast, and fry among other functions. It’s important to choose an air fryer with the capacity you need, the controls that you’ll find useful, and the durability that will make your air fryer last through many meals.

Right now, Philips Airfryer is in my opinion the best brand of air fryer because you get a ton of extras. You also have the ability to buy add-ons for different cooking functions, and different capacity choices. Philips is a great brand name as well, offering excellent customer support if something goes wrong or even if you have a question about your Airfryer. You were wise to go with Philips, and as my favorite brand of air fryer, I’m pleased to present to you this Philips Airfryer review.
In this Philips Airfryer Review, I’m going to list all 3 of Philips top models of Airfryers for 2016, list the best features of each. I’m going to tell you how they compare to the other top models of Philips Airfryer and also how to get the most out of each specific Airfryer model.
Intrigued? I hope so… Let’s learn more about Philips Airfryers.
Philips Airfryer Review: Philips Viva Airfryer (HD9220)
The Philips Viva HD9220 is a great air fryer with a ton of good features. The best thing about this model is the budget price. You get the Philips name, the ability to use add ons, and a very nice bang for the buck.
The Philips HD9220 air fryer doesn’t have the capacity of larger fryers, such as the HD9240 (Avance AirFryer XL). This model has a 1.8lb cooking basket capacity. The capacity is fine cooking for 2 people, but if you have a hungry family to feed, I definitely recommend a larger capacity air fryer like the HD9240. That’s a large capacity fryer that’ll cook enough food to fill the bellies of your entire family. The nice thing about the HD9220 is that it’s somewhat compact, about the size of a blender and won’t take up too much counter space.
The HD9220 has analog controls, which is why it costs less than the other Philips Airfryers in this review, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Most people like to have digital controls, but analog still works, and you can cook the same foods with this air fryer as you can with the other ones. It’s a good way to save $50 or more if you’re on a budget but still want an air fryer.
Most customers seem to love this air fryer. Amazon gives it a rating of 4.4 out of 5 stars with most customers saying that it cooks the foods that they want to cook and does it very well. Reviews indicate that they would recommend this air fryer to others. The most common complaints about this fryer are the capacity. Some people complain that it’s a little loud, while others complain that the controls are hard to deal with. In this case I recommend the Philips HD9230 that’s further down on this page. The digital controls directly address this concern.
Philips Airfryer HD9220 Vs HD9240
The HD9220 is different than the 9240 in that it has analog controls, less capacity, and a much lower price. The HD9220 is perfect for those who cook for one or two people. If you’re cooking for a family then your best bet is the HD9240. The capacity of the HD9240 is 2.65 pounds, which is quite a bit more than the 1.8 pound capacity of the HD9220.
The air fryer to choose if you’re cooking for a family is definitely the HD9240 if you’re cooking for more than just a couple of people. Otherwise, the low price of the HD9220 is a compelling reason to buy the smaller, cheaper model.
Philips Airfryer HD9220 Vs HD9230
If you’re looking for a digital air fryer, then the HD9230 is the one for you. The HD9220 has analog controls, and other than that, has the same accessory options and the same capacity. The digital option is around $50 so if you’re on a tight budget, the HD9220 is a nice way to save a few extra dollars if you don’t mind analog controls. If you absolutely can’t stand analog controls, you’re going to be glad that you spent an extra $50 on the HD9230 for digital controls.
Philips Airfryer Review: Philips Airfryer Avance XL (HD9240)
The Philips HD9240 is the “big daddy” of airfryers. Yeah, I just said that…. This air fryer has almost double the capacity and it’s the air fryer that you’ll need if you plan on serving air fried foods for the entire family. This is the premium model for the entire line of Philips airfryers. It has digital controls and accepts all of the add-ons that the other philips air fryers accept.
The price of the HD9240 is higher, and for that higher price you’re getting a TON more capacity than you’ll find on any other Philips airfryer. Don’t let the higher price scare you away, especially if you’re planning on heavily using the air fryer for a large group of people. People who buy smaller air fryers often get frustrated with the smaller batches which is fine if you’re cooking a meal for yourself or having a romantic fried chicken date with a significant other. For those cooking for a few, you will definitely get the most use out of the air fryer with a larger capacity such as this one.
On Amazon, this fryer has 4.4/5 stars which is a very good rating. Customers are posting pictures of the foods they’ve cooked in it and are impressed by the quick cooking times. Many are claiming this Airfryer to be their favorite new kitchen appliance. Some of the common complaints are that add-ons can get expensive and that the temperature controls are not fine grained enough. The analog controls only work in 30 degree increments.
Philips Airfryer HD9240 Vs HD9230
The HD9240 and the HD9230 are both excellent digital airfryers. At first glance it would appear that the only difference between them is the capacity but that’s not true. The HD9240 comes with a larger cooking basket, has a few mechanical differences from the HD9230 that are nice, The extra capacity comes with a better heating element, and food gets cooked more evenly. Also the controls are slightly better in that the time and temperature can be adjusted independently on the HD9240.
Philips Airfryer Review: Philips HD9230 Digital AirFryer
The HD9230 is a big step up from the HD9220. I prefer digital controls, as they are easier, and much more exact than using analog controls. The Philips HD9230 Airfryer comes with digital temperature and time controls and a double layer rack in order to increase the cooking surface area. This is Philips’ Mid-Range price air fryer. The price of this Air Fryer sits directly between the HD9220 and the HD9240, making it a very good option for those with a mid-range budget.
With the digital controls, you do NOT get any increased capacity, so if you’re cooking for a family I suggest the Philips AirFryer Avance XL (HD9240). It’s got enough capacity for a family of 4, and a few other nice features. This AirFryer is perfect though, if you’re cooking for 1 or 2 people or doing smaller batches of food. The ability to add on a baking dish and grill pan make this a really great choice for someone who’s planning on using their air fryer regularly and to cook a wide variety of foods.
This is my personal favorite choice of Philips Airfryer. If I were cooking for many people I would change that choice to the XL but for now, this one wins due to the price and the digital controls. I’m the type of person that can’t live with analog, and the extra few dollars for digital is well worth it.
If you’re the visual type, here’s a video of the Philips Airfryer in action:
Philips Airfyer Review: Air Fryer Addons
One of the best thing about Philips Airfryer is that there are so many addons that you can buy. Sure, there are cheaper air fryers that you can buy than the Philips, but you’re really limited in what you can do with them compared to the Philips. You have the ability to purchase a bunch of extras that increase the versatility of your investment, plus with all of the add ons, you’ll be using your air fryer more and more.
Philips Fry/Grill Pan
This nifty addon allows you to grill meat and vegetables. Now you can turn your airfryer into a grill! Grill steak, chicken, lamb, and even more. Be sure to choose the model that fits your airfryer. There are two separate types for the Airfryer Avance and Airfryer XL.
Philips Airfryer Baking Dish
You may think that this accessory is just for baking cakes, but you can so so much more with it. You can make meatballs, different types of meat, casseroles, etc. This one is another “must have” accessory to get the most our of your Philips Airfryer.
Philips AirFryer Double Layer Rack
In my opinion this is the weakest accessory that Philips has to offer for it’s line of Airfryer add-ons. It increases capacity, but only when cooking a limited number of foods, and there’s not really a whole lot of room to use both layers. Not a great buy in my opinion.
Philips Airfryer Alternatives
Philips is the best brand of Air Fryer you can buy in my opinion. They’re not the cheapest you can buy but they are among the best quality, the warranty is good, the customer support is excellent, you can buy more addons for the philips air fryer than you can for any other brand, making it a versatile machine that can fry, bake, cook, and grill.
There are a whole lot of other brands of air fryer that are hitting the market. I’d love to sell you a philips, but it would be dishonest of me to not mention what the best philips airfryer alternatives are:
BLACK+DECKER Air Fryer HF110SBD
The HF110SBD is a very impressive model of air fryer for the price. It’s right around $100, which means it’s cheaper than any philips. It’s got a good reputation for being well built, but has no addons and it has analog controls
Avalon Bay Air Fryer (AB-Airfryer100B)
For less than $200 you get a decent air fryer with a couple of accessories included. Not a bad value.
DELLA Air Fryer
Dirt cheap, with a digital display. The build quality is nowhere near that of the philips but the price is so low and the controls are pretty good so those two things make up for it. If you’re looking for a seriously cheap philips air fryer alternative, this could be the one.
On my Air Fryer Reviews page I cover a TON more Air Fryer models so if you’re looking for a Philips Airfryer alternative, you’re bound to find one there.
Philips Airfryer Review: Conclusion
To recap, the best philips airfryer, in my opinion is the Avance XL (HD9240). It’s got almost double the capacity of other air fryers, and has a few features that the others do not. It’s also the most expensive. Speaking of price, if you use any of the buttons on this site, or click any of the links, you’ll be taken to Amazon, where you’ll find the best price on Philips Airfryers.
The Philips HD9220 and HD9230 are kind of a toss up, as they’re both very close in terms of build other than the controls. Then the decision comes down to either you want digital or analog controls. I suggest digital (HD9230) , but those on an extremely tight budget may be interested in a great air fryer, saving a few dollars.
